I'm a little obsessed with Supergirl.

Steve: I'm leaving to get breakfast tacos. Charlie, would you like a taco?
Charlie: No. I full.
Steve: You sure?
Charlie: NO TACO!
Steve returns from taco joint.
Charlie: Yummy. You get Charlie cho-wee-zo and egg?
Steve: No, Charlie. You told daddy that you weren't hungry.
Charlie: That's OK. I eat dada's taco. Up. Up. UP!

I've been thinking about water all day. It started with a mad search for goggles this morning and ended with finding this amazing picture. Every now and then, if I let too much time pass, I get desperate for the water. I need an ugly Speedo, a swim cap and a wide open lane. It soothes me. It's quiet and familiar.
Steve and I met coaching swimming. Last year, on the 20th anniversary of our first date, we were at Ellen's very first swim meet. Flags flapping in the wind and the smell of sun screen and chlorine. It was a very tender moment.
This is Charlie's first real swimming summer. We wondered how he would take to the water. Here's our answer!

I'm spending this Love Thursday staring at these pictures and listening to Hideaway by The Weepies. It's a dangerous combination. I feel like I'm frantically searching for the little girl who once was Ellen and, at the very same time, loving every minute of watching her grow into this amazing person. Sometimes when I look at her and think about who she is, it literally takes my breath away. I have to close my eyes and quietly tell myself, "I can do this."

We're celebrating big family news on this Love Thursday! Ellen made the safety patrol squad at her school! Her 7:15am training (yes, that's AM) started yesterday. I don't know about the rest of you, but I feel safer already.
And, as you can see, this is more than a commitment to protect and serve, this is her destiny.

Brent and Steve (my husband) - 1980. Yes, Ellen and Steve look exactly alike. Cute, huh?
Plus, she'll have enough baggage as the first-born daughter of two first-born, over-achieving rule-followers. At the very least, she deserves a whistle and a badge.

Steve and I drove to Austin on Saturday to celebrate a very big day with one of our closest friends, Chaz. Chaz and I met 13 years ago in Austin. We waited tables together (I sucked - he was awesome and spent a lot of his spare time covering my butt), we graduated from UT together, grew-up together, resented growing-up together, and, most importantly, we've laughed a lot. He also edited my first book and cheered me on when 3 people showed up at one of my first book-signings (and one woman was drunk).
Chaz graduated from the University of Texas Executive MBA program on Saturday. It is a huge accomplishment! Congrats! Go off and conquer the world in a kind, gentle, compassionate, shame-free, environmentally-friendly way! If there's anyone who can do that - it's you!
Hook 'em Horns!
